April 28, 2023 - The top-ranked Columbus North softball team knocked off the Perry Meridian Falcons at Perry Meridian 14-1 in five innings on Thursday evening (April 27). Freshman Payton Morris got the start for the Dogs, tossing a complete-game five hitter, striking out seven and walking only one. The Dogs put three quick runs on the board in the top of the first inning, and blew the game open with six runs in the third and five more in the fourth inning. Morris and Maddi Rutan each homered for North as they improved to 13-1-1. Rutan and Josie Lemmons each recorded triples, and Rutan finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle as she and Bailey King each had doubles in the easy victory. Rutan tallied six RBI as she got a rest from pitching in the game and filled the designated hitter role for North. North will play in the Franklin Central Invitational on Saturday, April 29 with host Franklin Central, McCutcheon High School, and Franklin Community High School.
