Columbus North drops a non-conference baseball matchup to Cathedral

April 29, 2023 - Columbus North hosted fourth-ranked Cathedral Friday evening, and the Irish (9-2) showed why they are highly touted as they shut out the Bull Dogs 8-0. North (8-7) put Blake Osbourne on the mound to start the game. He lasted four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out six. Ryan Rayburn then came on in relief and pitched the final three innings. Rayburn allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits. He struck out three and walked two in his outing. Osbourne and Rayburn also led the Bull Dogs at the plate, tallying a pair of hits each as the Dogs were able to muster only six hits for the contest. Rayburn and Luke Harmon each pounded doubles for North in the loss. In the JV game, the Bull Dogs improved to 10-2 with a 6-4 victory. The Dogs trailed 4-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning, but put three runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the 6-4 victory. The varsity team will be back action Saturday morning as the host Terre Haute North at 11:00 am. Photo: Blake Osbourne started for the Bull Dogs against Cathedral and pitched four strong innings. However, the Dogs fell 8-0 to drop to 8-7 for the season.
