April 29, 2023 - Eleventh-ranked Columbus North participated in the Avon Invitation on Saturday (April 29) and finished the event with a 2-1 record, beating Avon and Penn and falling to third-ranked Jasper. In match one against 15th-ranked Penn, the Bull Dogs won 4-1 with decisive victories in all three singles matches (Kathryn Wilson, Aya Saad, and Annabelle Sun), and a competitive victory at two-doubles (Siri Poludasu and Nino Akhalaya). The Dogs’ only defeat came at one-doubles (Lucy Bergman and Grace Conner). The second match of the day saw North defeat 18th-ranked Avon. All three singles players again cruised to easy victories, and once again, the two teams split the doubles matches. In the final match, Saad won her two-singles match 6-3, 6-1, but Jasper took both doubles matches and the three-singles match to secure the team victory. Wilson dropped the first set in her one-singles match, but battled back for a 4-6, 7-6(3), 10-8 victory. It was too little, too late for the Bull Dogs, however, as Jasper had already secured the team victory 3-2. The Bull Dogs (11-3) will travel to Terre Haute South on Monday and Bloomington South Tuesday in Conference Indiana dual meets.
