May 5, 2023 - After two and a half innings at the Columbus North softball diamonds, the scoreboard read 0-0 in the non-conference matchup between Columbus North and visiting Greenwood. That when the Bull Dogs’ bats woke up and the rout was on. North put four runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning, four more in the bottom of the fifth inning, and three more in the sixth to finish the game early with an 11-0 victory, improving their record to 16-1-1. Josie Lemmons and Bailey King each had three hits, and Maddi Rutan pounded a homerun as the top-ranked Bull Dogs blew out the Woodmen. Kirsten Danford tallied three RBI for the Dogs, and Lemmons and Miley McClellan each had triples in the victory. Rutan pitched the first four innings, giving up no runs on no hits and striking out seven before handing the pitching duties on to freshman Payton Morris. Morris threw the last two innings, and while she gave up two hits and a pair of walks, she kept the Woodmen off the scoreboard, preserving the shutout victory. The Bull Dogs will host Terre Haute North this afternoon (May 5) in a makeup game from a weather-related cancellation earlier in the season. The Conference Indiana matchup will get started at 6:00 pm. Photo: Bailey King had three hits, including a double, and scored a run for the Dogs in an 11-0 victory for Columbus North.
