May 6, 2023 - The first batter that Maddi Rutan faced against Terre Haute North at the Southside diamonds on Friday night belted a single right back up the middle to put a runner on first with no outs in the top of the first inning. Rutan then retired the final 21 batters that she faced, fifteen of them by strikeout, as the Dogs won 3-0 and improved to 4-0 in Conference Indiana and 17-1-1 overall. The Bull Dogs picked a great night for outstanding pitching and defense as they were only able to muster five hits themselves in a game that secured Columbus North at least a share of the Conference Indiana title with one game remaining in the conference schedule. Josie Lemmons had two of the five hits for the Bull Dogs and scored two of the three runs. Rutan, Kirsten Danford, and Bailey King accounted for the team’s RBIs as the Bull Dogs often hit the ball hard but right at Patriots’ defenders. The top-ranked Bull Dogs will travel to Brownstown Central on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
