North improves to 18-1-1 with big victory over Brownstown Central

May 8, 2023 - Columbus North exploded for 16 hits, including four homeruns in a 16-3 road victory at Brownstown Central on Monday evening. The Dogs led only 3-0 after three innings, but exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth to secure the dominating victory. Maddi Rutan, who had a pair of home runs from the plate, pitched the first three innings, allowing only two hits and striking out seven. Bailey Scruggs then came on in relief in the fourth inning and threw the final three innings. She allowed three runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out four. She, along with Payton Morris accounted for the other two Bull Dog home runs. Leadoff hitter Josie Lemmons had three hits, while Rutan (4), Kelsey Lovelace (3), and Morris (3) led the Dogs in RBI. The Dogs will travel to Bloomington South on Tuesday evening with a chance to finish the Conference Indiana season undefeated. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
