Bull Dogs hold off Franklin Community in boys soccer sectional opener

October 8, 2025 - Columbus North scored two first-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Franklin Community in the first round of the Whiteland sectional on Tuesday evening. They will face Center Grove (8-6-3) in the semifinals after the Trojans eliminated Columbus East 4-2 in the other first-round match. Manuel Valle scored in the 36th minute off of an assist from Johnny Garcia Renteria. Just three minutes later, Edgar Ibarra took a Jonah Sipes pass and punched it in for a 2-0 Bull Dog lead. The score held until Franklin Community found the back of the net in the 69th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. The Bull Dog defense held on the rest of the way for the first-round victory and a spot in the semifinals. North outshot the Grizzly Cubs 28-5 for the match. Goalkeeper Nicolas De Linnan Palacios kept goal for the Bull Dogs all 80 minutes and recorded one save.
