North falls to Bloomington South in five-set Senior Night thriller

October 8, 2025 - Bloomington South and Columbus North were each undefeated in Conference Indiana play heading into their late-season showdown in Memorial Gym on Tuesday night. By the end of the night, the Panthers had secured the conference title with a 3-2 victory over the Bull Dogs. North won the first set 25-20, but the Panthers rallied to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19. The Dogs bounced back and took set four 25-16, but Bloomington South edged the Dogs 15-10 in the fifth set tiebreaker to improve to 25-5 for the season and finish their Conference Indiana season 5-0. The Bull Dogs fell to 17-11 and are now 3-1 in conference play with a Saturday matchup with Terre Haute South still to play on their conference schedule. Statistical leaders for Columbus North included: Kills: Karen Dutro (16), Tania Maldonado and Sydney Ousley (9) Digs: Morgan Osborn (20), Hannah Perry (14) Blocks: Dutro (6) Assists: Lexi Denny (26) Service Aces: Osborn (2) The Bull Dogs recognized seven seniors prior to the start of the varsity match, including Clara Balzano, Dutro, Kaitlyn Olivo, Osborn, Ousley, Elaina Penrod, and Perry. The Panthers won the JV match 2-0 and the Bull Dogs earned a 2-0 victory in the C-team match. The Dogs will host Franklin Community (22-5) on Thursday evening in a non-conference matchup before hosting Terre Haute South to conclude the regular season.
