Boys tennis claims 13th semistate title in program history with 3-2 victory over Cathedral

October 11, 2025 - Coach Kendal Hammel and the Columbus North boys tennis team earned the program’s 13th semistate title with a 3-2 victory over Cathedral on Saturday afternoon at Center Grove High School, and will advance to next weekend’s state quarterfinals. The Bull Dogs found themselves in a 2-1 hole after three matches (a 1-6, 0-6 loss at number two singles by Max Wei, a 6-2, 6-2 victory at one singles by Alek Devidze, and a 4-6, 0-6 loss by Jace Branham at three singles), but rallied to win both doubles matches (Teddy Littrell and Vince Sasse at one doubles 6-4, 7-5, and Jaishal Padmanabhan and Luca Devidze at two doubles 6-1, 6-4) to advance to face the winner of Homestead and Delta next Friday (October 17) at North Central High School. The semistate title was the fourth consecutive for Columbus North, who improved to 15-6 for the season.
