Cross country dominates Brown County sectional meet

October 18, 2025 - The top-ranked Bull Dogs boys cross country team (ranked seventh nationally) cruised to their 36th sectional title (second all-time) in Brown County on Saturday morning. The Dogs took seven of the top eight spots, accumulating only 16 team points and finishing well ahead of the field. Seymour was second in the team standings with 128 points, followed by Greensburg (131), Jennings County (137), Hauser (138), and Brown County (148). Jace Works won the race in 15:24.8, which was 17 seconds ahead of teammate Justin Reckers. Joseph Day was third, Denton Sluder fourth, Logan Vanzant sixth, Graham Pumphrey seventh, and Sam Steinmetz eighth individually. The girls team won their 29th consecutive sectional (39th overall), extending the state’s all-time best streak as they scored 38 points to beat Edgewood (69), Seymour (99), Jennings County (107), Greensburg (112), and Martinsville (171). Emma Lowther paced the Dogs, finishing fifth in 19:30.9. Kodi Smith was sixth, Tristan Works seventh, Adira Sluder ninth, Sydney Madden eleventh, and Maria Gaggiano Camargo twelfth individually. The Bull Dogs will compete in the Evansville Mater Dei Regional on October 25. The top five teams from that regional will qualify for the state finals in Terre Haute.
