December 13, 2023 - Seymour girls basketball scored the first basket of the game on their opening possession. The Bull Dogs then took control for most of the remainder of the game., building a double-digit lead. However, a late run by Seymour, including a tying three-point goal with six seconds left in the game, knotted the score at 57-57, and the shocked crowd in Memorial Gymnasium assumed the game was headed to overtime. However, after a timeout by head coach Brett White, freshman Kaylie Harmon split a backcourt double team, drove to the right wing, and let fly the potential game-winning three-point goal. Harmon was fouled on the shot by a trailing defender, sending her to the free throw line with just .9 seconds remaining. Harmon calmly knocked down all three shots, giving the Bull Dogs a 60-57 victory. The North victory, their eighth straight victory, followed a 37-26 victory in the JV game. The JV squad (7-1) was led by Audrey Nordman’s twelve points. Harmon led the varsity team with a season-high 27 points. Sydney Johnson add nine, and Kenna Conrad chipped in eight in the victory. The girls will host Columbus East as part of Winter Rivalry Week on Thursday, December 14. JV is scheduled to tip off at 6:00, with the varsity game to follow. Columbus East and Columbus North’s Unified Basketball teams will compete between the JV and varsity games.
