December 15, 2023 - After eight straight victories, the Columbus North girls basketball team fell in overtime to cross-town rival Columbus East 43-38. Midway through the fourth quarter, it looked like the Dogs would be extending their winning streak to nine games as they held a seven-point lead with just over three minutes to play. However, a few costly fouls and turnovers allowed the Olympians to claw back into contention, eventually forcing an overtime period. Points were difficult for each team to find through three quarters as the score was knotted at 19 heading to the last stanza. The Dogs found their offensive rhythm early in the fourth quarter, triggered by their full-court pressure defense en route to building the largest lead by either team in the game. An 8-for-22 performance from the free throw line for the game was not what the Bull Dogs needed in this rivalry game, and it proved costly as North fell to 8-3 for the season. Miley McClellan finished with a team-high ten points before exiting the game early with an injury. Ava Wilson added seven points in the loss. Riley Sims scored 15 points to lead the JV team to a 44-18 victory over the Olympians in the early game. The JV team improved their record to 8-1. The Dogs will host Jennings county on Tuesday, December 19 with the JV scheduled to begin at 6:00.
