Dogs fourth at Cheatham Girls Basketball Classic

December 29, 2023 - Columbus North girls basketball finished with one victory and two losses to claim fourth place at the Cheatham Classic in Scottsburg on December 28, 29, leaving them with a 9-7 season record. The Dogs opened with a convincing 73-43 victory over Eastern High School (Pekin). North led throughout and had three players score in double figures. Ava Wilson had 14 points, and Miley McClellan and Kaylie Harmon each added twelve in the victory. North fell 59-48 in round two to Franklin Central, who had defeated the Bull Dogs just seven days earlier in a regular season matchup. Avery Johnson had 18 points, all in the second half, to pace the Bull Dogs. Harmon chipped in 14 points, and McClellan ten in the loss. The Bull Dogs faced host school Scottsburg in the final round, falling 62-54. The Dogs trailed by just two points at halftime, but a rough third quarter doomed the Bull Dogs. Harmon led North with 18 points, and McClellan added nine for the Dogs. Columbus North will be off until January 6 when they will host Conference Indiana foe Bloomington South. JV will tip off at 1:00 with varsity to follow.
