February 3, 2024 - The Columbus North girls basketball team knew they were going to have their hands full when they faced eighth-ranked and defending Sectional champions Franklin Community in the semifinal round of the IHSAA Whiteland Sectional. They certainly didn’t expect to struggle the way they did on Friday evening. The Grizzly Cubs (22-3) jumped out to a 21-2 lead early in the second quarter and then rolled to a 74-25 victory, advancing to the Sectional Championship game Saturday evening against Whiteland. Whiteland earned a trip to the finals with a semifinal victory over Columbus East. Senior Olivia Johnson led the Bull Dogs with nine points, while freshman Avery Johnson added eight for North. Friday marked the final game for two Bull Dogs seniors, Olivia Johnson and Kaitlin White. Columbus North finished their season with an 11-13 record, while the JV finished 15-4.
