November 10, 2024 - The 2023-24 girls basketball season ended with a thud last February with a 49-point loss to Franklin Community in the sectional tournament. The Bull Dogs have had to live with that taste in their mouths for nine months. That loss made North’s 57-43 victory at Franklin Community even sweeter. After a bit of a sluggish start (a 14-9 deficit after one quarter), the Dogs outscored the Grizzly Cubs 23-12 in the second quarter en route to a double-digit victory and a 1-0 start to the season. Hadassah Hurt (shown) led North with 18 points, including four of North’s seven three-point goals. Kaylie Harmon led the Dogs with four assists and Paige Terry had 14 rebounds. The Bull Dogs will look to improve their shooting throughout the early season as they made only 27 of 65 from the field and 10-for-21 from the free throw line. The JV opened the evening with a 35-22 victory. Claire Finney led a balanced offense with nine points, and Rian Strietelmeier added eight in the victory. Next up for the Bull Dogs will be another road trip to Mooresville on Tuesday evening (November 12). JV will play at 6:00 with varsity to follow. The Dogs will then travel to Martinsville on Thursday (November 14). This game had been originally scheduled for Friday night, but was rescheduled due to Martinsville’s football team playing in the Regional finals.
