North runners-up at Batesville Cheatham Classic

December 29, 2024 - Columbus North girls basketball finished 2-1 at the eight team Cheatham Classic in Scottsburg, earning second place. Kaylie Harmon had 18 points and Avery Johnson had eleven as North beat Bedford North Lawrence 50-42 in the opening round game Friday morning (December 27). After a little rest in the afternoon, the Dogs were back on the court in the evening and beat host Scottsburg 73-51 in their best statistical game of the tournament. The Dogs were 28-of-50 shooting, including 11-for-24 from the three point stripe for the game, and committed only eleven turnovers. The Dogs had four players score double digit points, including 20 by Harmon, twelve each from Ava Wilson and Hadassah Hurt, and ten from Johnson. The Bull Dogs ran into a buzz saw at the beginning of Saturday night’s championship game against Franklin Central, falling behind 25-5 after just one quarter. However, North righted the ship in the next two quarters and cut the lead to just six in the third quarter. The Flashes, however, pulled back away in the fourth quarter on their way to a 62-45 championship victory. Harmon once again North with 15 points. Harmon and Johnson were each named to the all-tournament team following the championship game. North (13-2) will next play at Whiteland on Tuesday, January 7 with the JV beginning at 6:00 pm.
