Dogs fall short against eleventh-ranked Trojans

January 13, 2023 - Columbus North girls basketball scored 15 points in the first quarter against eleventh-ranked Center Grove and held a two-point lead after a quarter. The Dogs could only muster 19 points the rest of the game and fell to 10-7 for the season after a 51-34 loss to the Trojans. The Bull Dogs shot only five free throws for the contest, knocking down just two, and committed 17 turnovers against a Center Grove team that connected on seven three-point goals and attempted 17 free throws. Lauren Barker (shown) got hot in the third quarter, recording a trio of three-point goals, giving the Dogs their only nine points for the quarter. Barker finished with a game-high 17 points. The Bull Dogs had the Trojan lead cut to just seven points at two different times in the fourth quarter, but Center Grove answered each time with a three-point goal to extend the lead back to double digits. Center Grove was 7-for-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the victory. Kathryn Wilson grabbed six rebounds to lead the Dogs, and Emma Long tallied four assists. The Trojans also took the early game 34-21, sending the Bull Dogs to their third straight loss. Anna Halstead led the Dogs (10-6) with five points, including the team’s only three-pointer. The Bull Dogs will host Lawrenceburg in JV and varsity play on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 noon. The C-team will host Bishop Chatard in the Auxiliary Gym at 11:30 am.
