January 25, 2025 - Columbus North outscored Bloomington North 27-16 in the fourth quarter of varsity girls basketball action on Friday night to secure a 56-47 victory and second place in Conference Indiana. The Bull Dogs, struggling from the field all game, trailed the Cougars 31-29 after three quarters until Avery Johnson opened the fourth quarter with a three point goal. That’s when Ava Wilson took over. She scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Dogs opened the quarter with a 10-0 run to push ahead of Bloomington North for good. Hedy George, longtime Columbus North girls basketball coach and athletic director, and now head of the Bull Dog Alumni Association, was honored with her family at halftime of the varsity game. A banner with her name and coaching record was unveiled and will hang in Memorial Gymnasium along with former boys basketball coach Bill Stearman and the leading boys and girls basketball scorers in school history, Josh Spidel and Ali Patberg. The JV team rolled to a 40-8 thrashing of the Cougars in the early game, pushing their record to 16-2. Sydni Schiefer and Claire Finney each scored twelve points in the victory. Next up for North (15-6) will be a road trip to Roncalli on Tuesday evening, January 28, before closing out the regular season at home against Rushville.
