January 20, 2023 - Columbus North had already secured a share of the Conference Indiana girls basketball championship with their victory over Bloomington South on January 7, but they had their eyes on their third consecutive undefeated conference title as Bloomington North came to Memorial Gym on Friday night. Things did not go the Bull Dogs’ way for much of the first three quarters, but a 19-4 rally in the fourth quarter propelled the Bull Dogs to a 46-36 victory over the Cougars and an outright Conference Indiana title. The Bull Dogs trailed 10-4 after a quarter and 19-17 at the half, but maintained composure even after falling behind 32-27 after three quarters. As the defensive intensity picked up for the Dogs, more shots started to fall, and they nailed 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch, holding the Cougars to just four points in the quarter. Kathryn Wilson led the Bull Dogs with twelve points, Kennedy Horn added eight, and Olivia Johnson chipped in seven for the Dogs. Columbus North’s leading scorer, Lauren Barker, was held to just four points, but they all came in the decisive fourth period. In the early game, Columbus North’s JV team improved to 12-7 (4-1 in Conference Indiana) with a 55-13 victory over the Cougars. Anna Halstead had twelve points and Audrey Nordman added eleven in the victory. The Bull Dogs (13-7) will host Rushville on Wednesday, January 25 and travel to Roncalli to conclude the regular season on Thursday, January 26.
