Eight Columbus North student athletes to participate in April 12 collegiate signing ceremony

April 12, 2023 - Eight Columbus North student athletes will be participating in the final collegiate signing ceremony hosted by the Columbus North Athletics Department on Wednesday, April 12 in the CNHS Cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm. Each athlete will be presented by Athletic Director Brian Lewis and a representative from their high school coaching staff. Family, friends, and teammates of each athlete will be in attendance. Student athletes participating in this ceremony represent six Columbus North athletic programs, including girls cross country, girls track and field, baseball, girls soccer, girls basketball, and football. These student athletes’ future colleges or universities represent the Division 1, NAIA, Division 3, and Junior College levels. The Bull Dog student athletes planning to participate in the April 12 signing ceremony include the following: Julia Kiesler is signing to run cross country and track and field at Division 1 Boise State University. Among her many cross country and track and field accomplishments, Julia was named All-State and All-Conference following both her junior and senior cross country seasons, she was MVP both her junior and senior seasons. Her team placed fourth at the State Cross Country meet this past season after winning the state title in 2021. She currently holds the 5k school record in cross country and recently set the school record in the indoor 3200 meters. She was the recipient of the Miss Cross Country award in the state of Indiana following her senior year. She had offers to run at Indiana University, Iowa State University, University of Utah, and Miami of Ohio. Julia plans to major in Kinesiology at Boise State. Trenton McCain is signing to play baseball at Lewis and Clark Community College. Trenton was named the Defensive Player of the Year following his junior baseball season. Trenton was credited with 195 put-outs from his catcher position during his junior season, and threw out three potential base-stealers, while committing only five errors the entire season. Trenton is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and so has been limited to only appearing at the plate. In seven plate appearances this season, he has an on-base percentage of .714. Trenton had offre from Ottawa University and Indiana Wesleyan before choosing Lewis and Clark to study Criminal Justice or become a Conservation Officer. Luke Harmon is signing to play baseball at Division 3 Franklin College. A two-sport star throughout his high school career, Luke was awarded the Behrman Big Dog Award, has served as captain in both baseball and basketball, was Honorable Mention All-Conference Indiana, and played on teams that captured Conference Indiana and Sectional championships. Harmon chose Franklin College after considering offers from Ohio Northern University, Vincennes University, Olivet College, Marietta College, and IUPUC. Luke plans to study Business Marketing and Management while at Franklin. Tyler Blythe is signing to play football at Division 3 Centre College. A three-sport athlete at Columbus North, Tyler was named Academic All-State following his senior year, and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-Conference recipient. He was named the Bull Dog Award winner, and served as captain. His teams won the Conference Indiana championship during his sophomore and junior seasons, and he was a member of Sectional championship teams in both baseball and basketball. Tyler had offers from Trine University and DePauw University before choosing Centre College to study Civil Engineering. Damon Edwards is also signing to play football at Division 3 Centre College. Damon was named Special Teams MVP, was All-Conference Honorable Mention, was named to The Republic All-Area Football team, and was a captain of the football team. He also was the recipient of the Don McDonald Mental Attitude Award for basketball. Damon, another multisport athlete at Columbus North, earned a total of six varsity letters. He considered offers from Depauw, Kentucky Wesleyan, Hanover, Trine, Northwood College, and Knox College before settling on Centre to study Finance with a Minor in Economics. Savion Miles is signing to play football at NAIA Indiana Wesleyan University. Savion was named IFCA Class 6A All-State, was a two-time first-team All-Conference Indiana selection, was named Defensive MVP, and served as team captain. Savion was awarded the Skobel Scholarship following his senior football season. Savion had over 150 solo and assisted tackles in his career, including 16 tackles-for-loss, and even had a rushing touchdown in a Sectional playoff game. Savion had offers from University of Findlay, Dodge City Junior College, and Lawrence Tech University. Savion plans to study Business while at Indiana Wesleyan. Kok Kao Yee Miramontes is signing to play football at NAIA Lawrence Tech University. Kok Kao was named All-Conference Indiana following his senior year, played on two Conference Indiana championship teams, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Lineman following his senior season. Kok Kao also competed in Track and Field while at Columbus North. He considered an offer from Wilmington College before deciding to attend Lawrence Tech to study Mechanical Engineering. Lauren Barker is signing to play both soccer and basketball at Division 3 Franklin College. Lauren was All-Conference Indiana in both soccer and basketball, she served as team captain in both sports, and won the Bull Dog Award in both sports. She was the Offensive Soccer Player of the Year in 2021, and the MVP in 2022. She was named basketball MVP this season. She holds school records in both sports including most goals in a game (6), most three-point goals in a game (8), and most career three-point goals made (212). She surpassed the 1000 career point mark during her senior season, finishing her career with 1012 points. She was The Republic Soccer Player of the Year in 2022, and is proud to hold a 4.2 GPA. Lauren had and offer from Bethel University as well before deciding on Franklin College to study Business, Marketing, and Real Estate. This ceremony will bring the total number of Class of 2023 signees to twenty-one. This will be the final collegiate signing ceremony hosted by Columbus North Athletics for the 2022-2023 school year.
